June 12th marks a special day in history from June 12, 1967 when the U.S. Supreme Court struck down state bans against interracial marriage. This day is referred to as Loving Day a name that could not be more appropriate and is interestingly enough named after Richard and Mildred Loving the couple who challenged the laws in Virginia against interracial marriage and won!
This case brought us one step closer to…
“I have a dream that one day little black boys and girls will be holding hands with little white boys and girls.” Martin Luther King, Jr.
Let us bring attention to the injustices still being done against the Black community but let it not divide us any further! There are many who stand as allies from the Latinx, Asian American, and Native American communities and yes, even the White community. Let the struggle of all oppressed communities Black, Latinx, Asian American, Native American, and LGBTQIA+ come together to end racism, sexism, and heterosexism because all these are rooted together in a system of oppression that seeks to divide us. The isms are a chasm that separate us from the Truth that we are all human, we all deserve respect and dignity, we all deserve human rights! On this day let us all come together in love and unity!!!
“One love, one heart…” Bob Marley
