We can’t say this has never happened before in the history of humankind, but surely unprecedented during our lifetime – a modern day pandemic has shaken up the world as we know it. If there’s one thing that has been uniting all of us, globally, together- it’s the trials and tribulations of transitioning to the new ways of post-covid life. As most schools, businesses, and events move online while there are others unable to do so, a gray area of confusion in between remains, what will happen to the businesses that have been built on in person services such as Reiki practitioners, massage therapists, spas and salons that give us sessions of relaxation away from the world? Luckily, some locations have opened back up, but understandably so some people are still wary of in person services. So what does that mean for people who would still like to receive an alleviation from this stressful time, but don’t want to go in person for sessions?
While most people would prefer to be in close proximity and experience the human connection of being close to one another physically, Reiki, an energetic practice on our energetic bodies, is possible to be done from any distance just as effectively. A Spiritual Spectra client, Mike Weiner, who after his triple bypass surgery experienced over the phone distance Reiki, reported
“on a scale of 1 to 10, the pain from the surgery was 59, it felt like I had been run over by a car- and after one phone session with Jen, 45 minutes in, I felt so much better and even slept through the entire night.”
Reiki is “a form of biofield therapy, which is based on the principle that fields of energy and information surround living systems and that these fields can be influenced by a practitioner to stimulate healing responses” which “helps to restore the client’s energies to a state of balance on the physical, emotional, and spiritual levels, thereby enhancing the client’s natural ability to heal (Dyer, Baldwin, & Rand, 2019).” Regarding her experiences with distance Reiki, another client of Spiritual Spectra, Jennifer C., shared
“Thank you again Jennifer for yet another wonderful distance Energy Healing Session. With the COVID-19 pandemic that we are in I didn’t want to step foot into your office unless I absolutely had to. It was nice to do this from the comfort and safety of my own home. Nice to know Jennifer Garcia is just a phone call away. I felt a lot of pain relief by the end of my session and my anxiety was much lower. Plus over the next few days I felt even better. It was wonderful to feel like myself again.”
Reiki is truly not bound by physical distance and can help clients no matter their location, anywhere in the world.
It sounds unbelievable! But with about 15% percent of the hospitals in America now having Reiki as a complementary health care service available (Dyer, 2019), Reiki is no longer a foreign practice- it is something that is being studied to see evidence to prove its credibility. Studies have shown that Reiki was found to be, “more effective than placebo for reducing pain, anxiety, and depression, and for improving self-esteem and quality of life (McManus, 2017)” and statistically showed “significant improvements in pain, drowsiness, tiredness, nausea, shortness of breath, appetite, anxiety, depression, overall well-being” concluding that “a single session of Reiki improves multiple variables related to physical and psychological health (Dyer, 2019).”
Reiki is a powerful meditative tool that brings forth the energy within us all to help us understand how we can heal our own bodies. Practitioners have been taught how to access this space of energetic resonance to help clients in the way that they need. It is something truly beautiful that will continue to emerge into the modern world one day at a time. Today more than ever when our nervous systems are in a constant state of chaos, Reiki can provide the alleviation from the comfort of your own home.
