Follow our NEW Chakra Blog & Video Series!

Spiritual Spectra is excited to announce that we will be presenting a NEW monthly series of blogs and videos from now until May, 2021 all about the Chakras!

The seven chakras. What are the Chakras? Join us each month on our blog and YouTube channel to learn about these energy centers which reside within the human body and impact our physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. Have you ever felt ill, gone to the doctor and they tell you that nothing is wrong with you? Then it’s very possible that your Chakras are blocked, restricting the flow of energy within you and causing you to feel ill. Once a month on our blog we will discuss one of the seven Chakras explaining how that particular Chakra impacts your physical health, emotional wellness and spiritual journey. In addition, on our YouTube Channel we will provide a variety of videos on the Chakras; some will have a Meditation you can do to help open a Chakra, while others will show how a blocked Chakra is released by a Healing Practitioner.

Spiritual Spectra believes that learning about the Chakras is so important that we are offering a contest to win two Chakra healing sessions (a 30 minute and a 75 minute) to encourage you to not only read our blog and watch our videos but also share them on your social media sites so that your friends and family may benefit from them as well. Details about the contest are below. It’s most important when sharing to include #ChakraHealingSpiritualSpectra so that we can track it and determine the winner(s)!

The Chakras

Chakra (cakra in Sanskrit) means wheel or disk and refers to 7 energy centers located in the body from the sacrum to the crown of the head. Chakras are spinning wheels of free-flowing positive energy that when open and aligned maintain our body, balance our emotions and keep us spiritually connected. The Chakras are the epitome of the Mind-Body-Spirit connection.

image of windmillsTo help you understand how these spinning vortexes of energy (life force or prana) function, imagine a windmill with the wind blowing through it. You can’t see the wind but nonetheless it blows and causes the windmill to spin which in turn creates energy that can be used to power generators. Similarly, the Chakras which can not be seen by the human eye only seen, felt, and sensed with intuition help to power the human body. These swirling wheels of energy correspond to specific areas of the body including bundles of nerves, major organs, and areas of our energetic body that affect our physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. If there is a blockage in one or more of the Chakras, energy flows are restricted. So it is vitally important to keep the Chakras open to keep the energy flowing. As the Chakras are interconnected it is also vital to keep them aligned. It is our symptoms of dis-ease that alert us to a potential blockage but the symptoms are a manifestation of the problem not the source of it. It is only in understanding the source that the blockage may be cleared and the energy may flow with ease once again.

The Chakras are as follows:

The chakras along the body.

  1. Root Chakra (Muladhara)
base of the spine — red
  2. Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana)
just below the navel — orange
  3. Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura)
    stomach area — yellow
  4. Heart Chakra (Anahata)
center of the chest — green
  5. Throat Chakra (Vishuddha)
base of the throat — blue
  6. Third Eye Chakra (Ajna)
forehead, above & between the eyes — indigo
  7. Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)
top of the head — violet

What we know about the Chakras originated in India when they were first mentioned in the Vedas, ancient sacred texts of spiritual knowledge dating from 1500 to 1000 BC. So while for most of us in the Western World the Chakras is considered to be “New Age” it is actually ancient wisdom that has been finally shared with the rest of the world. It is difficult to understand the connection between the mind, body and the spirit but we hope that as you read through this series it will begin to become clearer.

In addition to correlating to a particular part of the body, the Chakras impact our thoughts and emotions and are therefore part of our emotional and spiritual journey. For some of you that journey began as self discovery understanding what motivates you leading you to a career field or a passion. For others the journey is more spiritual leading you towards a spiritual path or a deeper understanding of the self. Whatever stage of the journey you might be, ultimately it’s leading you to self-fulfillment.

Though the journey to some sort of self-fulfillment whether physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual looks different from person to person, the one commonality that remains is that there is usually a set of foundational basics such as taking care of one’s physical body, maintaining healthy relationships, working towards one’s personal goals, expressing oneself with integrity, etc. that paves an empowering road for one to take control of their own destiny. The Chakras are seven energy centers that go from the tip of the brain down the spine, each representing a certain kind of foundational basic- that as each of the seven are worked through, so does our physical, mental, and spiritual development, one by one.

For those of you who have studied psychology, leadership development or have read self-help books you may be familiar with the concept of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, a theory in psychology proposed by Abraham Maslow in his 1943 paper “A theory of Human Motivation”. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is a motivational theory in psychology comprising a five-tier model of human needs, often depicted as hierarchical levels within a pyramid. It starts at the bottom where humans have the desire to fulfill their most basic physiological needs such as staying alive, breathing and nutrition rising up to the tip at the very top of the pyramid which is self actualization, becoming completely understanding of oneself, one’s enjoyment, talents, being at a place where one produces through their true and fulfilling creative urges.

Maslow’s theory is a similar concept to the Chakras where they, in order, almost reflect one another. However, the Chakras break down Maslow’s jump from esteem needs to self-actualization into four parts giving a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the process between.

Starting from the bottom, as well, the root (red) chakra is the energy center that, like Maslow’s physiological and safety needs, is the aspect of us that needs to be connected to our physical body and presence feeling healthy, fit, safe, mobile, and able-bodied. The sacral (orange) chakra represents our desire for healthy enjoyment, connection, pleasure, creative urges, intimate bonds like Maslow’s belongingness and love needs. Solar plexus (yellow) as the center that represents the will and self respect of our true personality and identity like Maslow’s esteem needs. From here Maslow jumps to self-actualization where the Chakras go from the Solar Plexus (yellow) to the heart (green) chakra which represents the human need to open their heart up to unconditional love whether to self, family, friends, lovers, or the community at large. Then the Throat (blue) Chakra which shows the human need to be honest and have integrity when speaking, acting, overall expressing themselves honestly to their own self and to others.

Then next to the third eye (indigo) chakra and the crown (violet) chakra are where the Chakras may meet back up with Maslow’s self-actualization. The third eye represents a sense of the spirited self, intuition, clear sight- a knowingness of oneself, their reality, and way to fulfilling their creative urges and potential. The last chakra, the crown, is the place where we melt into the cosmic pattern larger than us, something that we could call the higher power, god, or the source. Being connected to the brain, however, the Crown Chakra is the place that can become clouded by our intellect’s collected mental fears, beliefs, programmings, and conditionings that we have learned from others and society along the way. But worked through, it is, essentially, the one last mental block before we are at that place of peace, tranquility, and enlightenment.

While Maslow’s theory represents the journey from physiological to mental and emotional fulfillment, the Chakras are an interconnection of the body, mind, and spirit whereby the step by step journey to fulfillment affects the body and is impacted by the body, affects the mind/emotions and is impacted by them, and affects the spirit and is impacted by the spirit. For example, when you are around someone you love deeply, your heart chakra becomes activated so you may feel your heart beating faster or lungs breathing more rapidly or warmth in the chest area. Another example is when your emotional boundaries have been violated (such as being bullied or humiliated) and you feel a stirring sensation or pain in your stomach and/or vomit. The impact of the boundary violation is a blockage in your Solar Plexus chakra which manifests in physical symptoms. But it is only clearing the Chakra and releasing the emotional pain of the boundary violation that will restore balance. Maslow’s psychological theory is broken down to five segments of psychological fulfillment whereas the Chakras are broken down into seven segments where the goal is to work through each energy center as a foundational basic as doing so will, one by one, heal oneself holistically.

Each month from now until May, 2021 we will discuss one of the Chakras in more depth and we hope that you will continue reading and learning about the Chakras towards your own journey of physical, emotional and spiritual wellness.
